Austria's senior legal authority has confirmed judges would be right to hold a closed door trial if they felt that open hearings could cause further trauma to the victims.
His daughter Elisabeth – imprisoned for 24 years as his sex slave – has already been spared the agony of giving live testimony from the witness box after making sworn statements.
Now court officials fear intimate details of her ordeal contained in those statements and documents could increase her agony if they were made public.
Fritzl's five day trial begins next month in Sankt Poelten court, close to Amstetten where Elisabeth was held captive in a cellar underneath the family home.
