Excerpt: A man who reportedly had a stolen ATM card in his sock had to be threatened with a Taser before he stopped punching himself in the face.
Gregory Scott Davis, 35, of Cross City, was charged with unarmed robbery for an incident inside the St. Francis House, a shelter for the homeless at 413 S. Main St.
Gainesville police Cpl. David Blizzard said Davis and the alleged victim had been out shooting pool and drinking together before they returned to the shelter for the night. The victim said after he went into his room and got into bed, Davis walked in, punched him in the face, threw him to the floor and punched him repeatedly.
The victim said Davis then took his wallet out of his back pocket and left. Witnesses said they saw Davis take something out of the victim's wallet then stuff the wallet in a trash can and put something into his right sock.
