LOS ANGELES - Howard K. Stern once loved posing with pill-popping Anna Nicole Smith, but he's not happy in mug shots taken by cops, who say the Playmate's Svengali was also her supplier.

Stern is free on $20,000 bail after turning himself in late Thursday to face charges he worked with two Los Angeles doctors to supply the drug-addled Smith with thousands of prescription pills, including Ambien, Xanax, Ativan, hydromorphone, Valium and Klonopin.

"Howard K. Stern is the principal enabler," California Attorney General Jerry Brown said yesterday, capping a two-year investigation into the tragic model's accidental overdose death at the age of 39.

"Somebody died here," Brown said. "People think those drug dealers on the street corner are the only threat. People in white smocks in pharmacies and with their medical degrees are a growing threat."
