JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Jacksonville man faces a charge of aggravated battery in connection with the stabbing of his mother.
Police arrested Edward Harrell IV, 20, early Tuesday morning. Officers responded to the Arlington apartment he shares with his mother late Monday night. When they arrived, they found Barbara Washington, 49, outside her apartment, yelling for help. Police said that as rescuers prepared to take Washington to the hospital, she said, "My son stabbed me," and told police her son was inside her apartment.
Officers called Harrell outside and arrested him.
Investigators questioned Harrell at police headquarters, and said he told them he stabbed his mother. According to police, Harrell said he stabbed her because she was going to send him back to Philadelphia and he did not want to go. Harrell also told investigators that he felt his mother betrayed him and the voices inside his head told him to kill her....
